Summer Road Trip (Part III): Crater Lake National Park (Park #9)

This marks the (four months late) final post to our Summer 2018 Adventure. For our third and final park, we spent a day at Crater Lake NP. We arrived at the park late and stayed in the Mazama Campground within the park (campground information linked here). This is the only campground in the park that takes reservations. They have a store, laundry, and restaurant on site. The sites are fairly close to one another but, for convenience sake, it is a great location with lots of trees.

Summer Road Trip (Part I): Banff National Park

We started our epic summer road trip at the tail-end of June 2018.  Clearly, this post, much like our trip itself, is delayed.  The post is delayed because of, well, life.  The trip was delayed because my husband and I may be Canada cursed.  In our seventeen years together, Ryan and I have driven to Canada exactly twice.  Both times, we have broken down on the same 50 mile stretch of I-5.  This time we were fortunate enough to have this happen with our three kids in tow.  I

Park #7: Joshua Tree National Park

While we may not be able to hit a record, six parks this year, we are still on our quest to cover all fifty-nine.  We started out 2018 with a California classic, Joshua Tree National Park.  It is no wonder that Joshua Tree is a rock climbing mecca.  Rock piles are as plentiful, if not more so, than the Joshua Trees that give the park it's name.  Our kids have never met a rock pile they didn't like, so this park was their dream come true.

Park #5: Yosemite National Park

Our National Parks visits have slowed down now that summer has come and gone, but we are still at it!  For our fifth park, we visited Yosemite National Park.  In 2016, during their centennial year, the National Parks Service ran a, "Find your Park," campaign.  While I have never met a National Park I did not like, Yosemite is the place where I feel most at home.

Park #4: Kings Canyon NP

Generally speaking, our family functions as a "more is more," kind of group.  This may be because I tend to be a "more is more," kind of human in general.  Just ask my Mom and sister about the time we took a girls' trip to Hawaii and I allotted my sister forty-five (structured) minutes of pool time in between riding a glass bottom boat and a quick flea market run.  I had an itinerary.  I wasn't messing around.  That being said, on this trip, the Meyer family made history.  We took something off the itinerary during our trip.

Summer Road Trip Part III of III: Yellowstone National Park (Park #3)

As they say, life got in the way, so this post is a belated--I hope you enjoy it anyway!

When I was in junior high, my Mom, sister, Grammy, and Pop-Pop loaded up in our Toyota Camry and drove to Yellowstone National Park.  This trip created many memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.  Some of these memories are what you would expect and some... are not.  My most vivid memory of the trip is driving through the middle of the Nevada desert with no air conditioning while chugging liters of water.  My Mom warned me that there were no bathrooms for many miles.  I was 13.  I ignored her.

Summer Road Trip Part I of III: Dinosaur National Monument

During June/July we took a two-week summer road trip.  We covered 3,000 miles, traversed six states, and visited three parks: Dinosaur National Monument, Grand Teton National Park, and Yellowstone National Park.  Because we are all friends here, I would never subject you to a post quite that long.  This post is part one of a three part series.  Each part will cover one park.

Park #1: Death Valley NP (California)

The adventure begins!  Although I didn't know it at the time, Death Valley would be stop #1 on our quest to hit all 59 National Parks.  We visited DV in April 2017 on our trailer's inaugural voyage.  Death Valley has a desolate beauty that has to be experienced to be truly appreciated.  We marveled at the fact that, at times, we were likely the only people within a square mile or more of our location.  That is not something that one can often claim.
